In this bonus episode, I sit down and chat with a star member of our community and super talented Connecticut designer, Jocelyn Polce. We talk about how implementing a process in her business has led to the biggest business transformation within the last 12 months.

About Jocelyn Polce

Jocelyn is the owner and Principal Designer of August Oliver Interiors (A|O), a Connecticut-based interior design studio offering a full-service, turn-key design experience that is centered around telling each client’s unique story. Every aspect of the design – from the drawings down to the door handles – is coordinated, planned, and executed by their team.

The A|O goal is to create a classic room that will stand the test of time, evolve as life does and provide an elevated living experience – Yes, even when kids are involved! Her unique ability to find that delicate balance between living beautifully and functionally with a family stems from her most important role as mom to her 5 young boys.

Her energy is unmatched as is her ability to coordinate the construction chaos and design process. Jocelyn adheres strongly to the belief that communication is key and prides herself in using it with every client and contractor to make her projects run smoothly – on time and on budget.

Jocelyn’s passion for travel and love of vintage treasures is what inspires every design.

She openly shares how much she used to charge for consultations last year versus what she charges now, and it’s all thanks to her dedication to implementing systems in her business and treating her business like a business.

Throughout the episode, we talk about how defining your service offering and casting a vision for your business provides you with clarity and gives you the confidence to transform your business. Jocelyn shares how she’s been rapidly transitioning her business and the systems she’s put in place that help her say NO to projects that don’t light her up or fit her process and elevate her client experience.

Jocelyn also shares her experience when she was a student in my Power of Process course in 2021 and now as a member of my private community, Designers Room.  Accountability and having an organized set way of learning are key elements that have helped her succeed and bring her business to the next level.

Just start somehow or someway to make progress. [Before I always thought], if I just don’t do it all at once, I can’t do it. Now, I think just pick one thing, do it, and don’t put it off. Just start. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to look perfect, because you’re gonna change anyway. So don’t be scared, just push forward, even when you’re scared to death, just do it.
