Want Premium Clients? Become The Designer They Want To Hire.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Where do I find clients with bigger budgets?” I want you to ask a different question:

Are you showing up as the designer those clients want to hire?

In this episode, I’m breaking down the difference between budget clients and premium clients, and why simply finding people with more money isn’t the answer.

Early in my business, I found myself stuck in what I now call the “budget client loop.” One budget-conscious client would refer me to another, and before I knew it, I had built a referral network around the exact type of projects I was trying to move beyond.

The tricky part is that your portfolio can reinforce that loop too.

Your website, your photography, and the projects you choose to show are giving potential clients clues about what kind of designer you are and what level of project you can handle. If you want to move into larger, more premium projects, you need to look closely at what your business is currently communicating.

I’m also sharing what I’ve learned about premium clients and how they tend to approach the design process differently.

They’re not necessarily looking for the cheapest option or 30 different choices.

They’re often looking for quality, expertise, efficiency, and someone who can confidently lead the project.

They’ve hired you because they want you to make things easier, not to bring them into every single decision.

And this is important: a big budget does not automatically make someone a premium client.

A premium client values the service you provide, is willing to pay for that expertise, and expects an experience that matches.

Episode Highlights

How designers get stuck in the “budget client loop”
Why referrals can keep bringing you the same calibre of project
How your portfolio, website and photography influence who hires you
What premium clients are actually looking for from their designer
Why giving clients more options isn’t always better service
The difference between a big budget and premium client behaviour
Why your services need to align with the clients you want to attract
How professionalism and intentionality can help you bridge the gap to higher-level projects

If you’re ready for bigger projects but keep wondering where those clients are, this episode is your reminder to look inward at your business first.

Because you don’t just find premium clients.

You become the designer they want to hire.

And if you want to create a more professional, polished process behind your design business, you can learn more about Power of Process.
